St. Hugh’s Church, Kilvemnon –

The Select Vestry at its recent meeting resolved to ask the Bishop to remove the consecration from this church. It has lain unused for 14 years and before that, was used for some years once a year for a Harvest Thanksgiving. In my 3 ½ years here nobody has made any enquiry about this church being used.
The decision to make this request to the bishop came after some years of debate, reluctance and indecision – it is a very serious decision to make. The church, as it stands, is in remarkably good condition for such an unloved and neglected place of worship – most parishioners did not know where it is and many still do not. There is also a ruinous schoolhouse and residence on the site and a small, beautifully tended cemetery. The font is no longer in the building and the Holy Table is in a dreadful state.
The Bishop will decide when he will come to remove the consecration and, then, it is for the Select vestry to decide what it will do with the building.
