Thank-you to those who have helped create the new
flower beds at Old St Mary's. Old decking was donated to provide flower boxes
also! And Clonmel Corporation have provided us with plants with more to come!
Thank-you also to Bernard for his work at Tullameelan
– restored pews and other improvements!
We really should work together to do the best we can
for our parish. If we expect our churches and hall to look well each and every
one of us should do our bit!
On Sunday, 30th July we will have a picnic
at Marlfield after worship. Bring along sandwiches, buns etc. Soft drinks will be served. Some rugs or
fold-up chairs would be welcome!
Barbara
St Mary's Parochial School – Our school is coming to the end of another academic years in which all
sorts of wonderful things have happened.
Biodiversity has been an enormous project. The school
entered the St Patrick's Day parade for the 1st time ever and
excelled themselves.
There has been the “Artist in the classroom”, football
and other games, inspiring learning and encouragement for everybody.
Over the years, we have entered the Bishop's poster
competition; which has changed from drawing, painting and sketching into models
and other “concrete” models. But this year, a group entered the new
“electronic” category. This took the form of a video. Congratulations to the
trio who created this amazing visual and funny “film”. They won the award in
this category and deserve our congratulations and encouragement to develop this
talent in the coming years!!
Our gratitude and thanks goes to our staff, Ms Wallace
and Mrs Brennan, to Joan our hardworking secretary/multi-talented, Joan, the
students & substitute teachers, parents and a host of others from the
community who did so much to enrich the life
Safeguarding Trust – Unfortunately ther has been no movement with regard to this. It is
very disappointing!
We need to form a new panel. Some progress has been
made but without movement on the vetting we are unable to move forward.
Singing group – Will meet in Old St Marys on Friday, 16th
June & Friday, 30th June@
8.00pm -all welcome! – this is an opportunity to learn new hymns/canticles
and sing old ones in a relaxed atmosphere.
Place 4U - Charity Coffee Mornings on Friday mornings from 10am – 12 noon.
Greeting Cards – Greeting cards
with pictures of all our 5 churches are available in
each church at €2 each. The inside is blank to
facilitate personal greeting
Cleaning
& Flowers in our Churches – Please, if you take part in this part of
parish life; take dead flowers and foliage away with you and wash used
containers; especially in St Mary's. The area behind the organ has been
cleaned; please keep it that way!
General
Synod – The
Synod took place in the South Court Hotel, Limerick. It was a very good venue
and the Service in St Mary's Cathedral was very special. The room in which the
meetings took place was, perhaps, one of the best since I became a member – we
were all reasonably close to the speakers and the sound was good. Some of us
were able to commute; which was another bonus!
This
is the place where decisions are made for all aspects of Church life.
Legislation is passed, changes can be made to our Constitution, matters
pertaining to our Prayer Book are decided. There is discussion; sometime robust
and clergy and people contribute. It is all done in a “parliamentary” manner
and all members have a right to speak.
General
Easter Vestry –
As it is a triennial year, representatives were elected to Diocesan Synod in
addition to the Select Vestry and Parish Nominators.
Coptic
Pope – His
Holiness Pope Tawadros visited the Coptic Community in Cahir on 20th
May 2017. I met with him and, my understanding is that Bishop Michael and the
Rev A Carter did so also. The Coptic Church of Egypt is in full communion with
the Anglican Church; us. (photos of this historic visit can be found on the
Cahir News FaceBook page.)
Quinquennial Inspection – This will involve an
inspection of all our buildings by the Diocesan Architect. The diocese pays for
the inspection of the Rectory, but the parish pays for the inspection of the
churches and hall. This will cost the parish approximately €3,000; which we
need to raise. So, please, do your bit and support the fundraising efforts that
will take place during the coming months. We need to look after our buildings
and the congregation fo each church needs to raise the funds required for their
building/s. The hall in Clonmel actually belongs to the parish; so we all have
a responsibility to it and it's restoration so that we have a place to generate
funds.
Reception for Ambassador of the USA – I attended a Civic
Reception for Ms Anne Anderson, Ambassador to the USA, United Nations on 26th
May 2017 in the Town hall, Clonmel. Ms Anderson is a native of Clonmel. Many
members of her family also attended.
Opening of the Tholsel, Fethard – As I type this, the people
of Fethard are preparing for the opening of the Tholsel, Fethard this evening.
The work on this historic building has gone on for some years. It has led to
the reopening of the Tudor doorway into the churchyard of Holy Trinity, the
replacement of a “modern” chimney with a new chimney that matches the existing
original. This, hopefully, will lead to Fethard gaining its rightful place on
the tourist trail. In medieval times this town was one of the foremost on this
island. Andrew Lloyd Webber will be present among many other worthies. We wish
the people of Fethard well as they move forward into, what we hope will be, a
more prosperous future.
Schools Festival Service – Our six Primary
Schools will meet in St Carthage's Cathedral, Lismore on Friday, 9th
June 2017 at 11.00am for thier annual festival Service. All are welcoem to
attend!

Bereavements – Brian Sayer ,
Clogheen, died suddenly on 8th May. His funeral service took place
in St Paul's Church, Cahir and cremation took place at the Island, Cork on 16th
May 2017. Our sincere sympathy goes to his wife Maria, his children and the
wider family.
Michael Garrett, Clonmel died after a long illness
borne with courage and fortitude. His funeral and cremation took place at the
Island, Cork on 17th May. We offer our heartfelt sympathy to
Therese, his children and his wider family in the UK.
Kilbehenny – I visited this part
of our parish on 10th May. Owing to the distance from any of our parish churches, the congregation of this part of our
parish worships in Mitchelstown; which is a few short miles from them. The
locals are in the process of gathering information about the history of the
area which will include copies of what can provide from records held in Clonmel
& the RCB. This will also enable us to provide information to those who
return seeking to learn abaout their families in the times they spent here.
Weekday Service – Service at 10.30am in Old St Marys – Refreshments afterwards
Your
Prayers –
Please remember those who are unwell, at home & in hospital. At this time we need to pray, especially, for peace.
St
Paul's
– The parishioners met to review and discuss the repairs required in the small towers. The trays in
both towers have been cleaned and the interior of the walls brushed down and
cleaned.
The
necessary repairs; which are urgent will require an enormous fundraising
effort!
“The
Follies”, a group of people from North and South with an interest in historic
places and buildings visited on 14th May. In the coming months we
will have a visit be the Friends of St Canice's Cathedral also.
Sunday Life -This is an hour-long
programme on TippFm which is broadcast from 7- 8am on Sunday mornings. It
usually comprises music, reading and interviews. We keep it light as most of
our listeners have just woken up!
Parish
BBQ– This annual event will take place at the Rectory from 1.00pm on Sunday, 18th June 2017 –
Adults €15 and children free. This is
one of our few fundraisers, so please make every effort to be there.
Diocesan
Property & Glebe Committees – There are three of these committees in our
diocese and they consist of a Chairperson and members of Diocesan Council &
Churchwardens of the each parish.
In
the case of the Churchwardens their presence is only necessary if their parish
project is on the agenda. Meetings take
place to consider requests from Select Vestries with regard to permissions to
spend over €20,000 on projects on buildings and to review specifications and
plans for works proposed. This committee requests permissions from the Diocesan
Council and the Diocesan Council, if it agrees, then advances requests to the
Representative Church Body. This is the way in which we seek to manage our
buildings properly and to ensure that monies spent are spent to the best
advantage to ur buildings.
Envelopes & Assessment – This scheme only works if every envelope is filled whether you are in
Church or not! If you need to indicate where the contents of an envelope needs
to go; please write “collect” or “Asses” on the back of the envelope. Please,
do not attach other pieces of paper which can come loose!
Sunday Life – An hour of music,
scripture and meditation on TippFm fro 7.00am –
8.00am every Sunday.
