One parishioner will take the 1st step to doing this course on Advent Sunday in St Canice’s Cathedral; initially for their own interest with the option of becoming Diocesan Lay Readers. There is still a little time left if somebody would like to do the course to talk to the Rector.

4th Sunday Service -

Our 4th Sunday Services continue to be supported by the families attending the Parochial school. We have small numbers in our school this year and it is wonderful that pupils from the Junior room are reading and doing other things in worship! They are so enthusiastic and talented!

Bible Study –

Our study of St Luke’s gospel is going very well. Our numbers are small, but there is great enthusiasm and nobody is expected to be an expert. It is never too late to join us at the Rectory @ 8.00pm on:
Tuesday, 11th December 2012
Tuesday, 8th January 2013

Mass in Churchyard of Holy Trinity –

It poured rain for this act of worship celebrated by the Parish Priest of Fethard, Very Rev Tom Canon Breen with the Rector’s permission on Sunday, 4th November. About 35 people huddled under a rather small tent as those buried in the graveyard were remembered. Like many of our churchyards, people of different creeds and none have been buried there since, at least, medieval times. The Rector attended.

Charity Monster Whist Drive

This took place on Friday, 9th November. €812 was raised. Our thanks goes to Ken Harris and all those who sold tickets, played on the night, provided raffle and other prizes and ensured we all enjoyed a good supper. Thank-you everybody!!

A song for Lily May –

This concert on 23rd November was very well attended. It was organised by a caring and talented 16 year old. Proceeds went to help pay for treatment for Lily May, who needs to seek cancer treatment in the USA.

Amplification System in Old St Mary’s –

A plea that everybody who helps with worship and other occasions when the sound system is used – Please, please ensure that nobody “adjusts” any part of the equipment in the vestry.

School Applications –

The next date for application for entry in to the Parochial School is 1st March 201 when the board of Management meets particularly to decide who will be enrolled for September 2013. – however, new families to the parish should contact the school at 0526127876 when they arrive in the area.

Decorating churches for Christmas –

Everybody should help with this. We all love to go to a beautifully decorated church for Carol Services & Christmas & other festivals. Who does all this? Afaithful few! If you cannot help decorate, please give flowers etc or make a small donation to the cost – there is one!

Safeguarding Trust & Youth Work –

Good news is that there are two volunteers to enable us to begin Sunday School!!! – we need at least one more. There will be some training, Garda Vetting and the Declaration of Safeguarding Trust to be completed, but we appear to be moving forward on this matter, at last! We hope for a starting date in our next publication.

Church of Ireland Gazette –

This is a weekly publication of the Church of Ireland and keeps its readers up-to-date with national and international Church news. It and the church of Ireland gazette are the only two Anglican weekly publications. The annual subscription is €40 and is now due for the ocming year – talk to the Rector.

Diocesan Magazine –

Every parish in the Diocese contributes to this publication and it is a great way of seeing what happens in the South East. It is now time to order next year’s publication.
The cost is €35 and must be paid when ordering. Talk to the Rector.

CICE –

Is the Church of Ireland College of Education, a teacher training college
that has trained Protestant Primary School teachers since the early 1800s. The Patrons have been told by the minister for Skills & Education, that it must form a union with another institution within the next three years. The Patrons have until 31st December 2012 to complete negotiations with one of four named teacher training institutions. There is an enormous concern that the furture ethos of our primary schools may disappear ultimately in any amalgamation. You are asked to respond to the C of I appeal to support the effort to maintain our right to train teachers for our schools within the context of our faith. This is not an attack on our faith, other faiths face the same problem.

Auction – Thank-you to John Chamney and his team for ensuring that this event was a huge success financially. We do not yet have a final figure, but will be €8,000, give or take a few hundred euro. Thank-you to everybody who provided items, vouchers for an amazing variety things from hairdoes to dinner, to painting/carpentry, monthly mouthwatering cakes, guidane in making the most of setting up your own business and a host of other ideas. Thank-you to Larry O’Keeffe for the use of his professional skilss, premises and all his help and advice.
