For those of you who do not know. We are an independent charity and
must now comply fully with all that goes with that! In the coming months our
accounts for 2017 will be uploaded unto the Charites Regulatory Authority's
site where they become open to public accessibility. We have been uploading our
accounts for the last two years. We will also become subject to Data Protection on 25th
May 2018 and it will take considerable time and energy to become compliant
asap. Each of you will receive a consent form in relation to this soon. On this
form you will be invited to give/not give permission for data relating to you
being kept by the parish; this includes all those regarded as parishioners.
A new Parish Panel is now in place. The panel is
responsible for Child Protection in the parish under “Children First” and is
answerable to both our Diocesan Childrens' Officer and Tusla. The new Panel
will undergo training in the near future.
Our Safety Statement is in place and we now need to
put in place all that goes with this aspect of parish life.
The amount of paperwork and compliance required, now,
is colossal.
The above requires the interest and
assistance of all parishioners! We require people to help manage all the above;
particularly those with expertise in the various categories.
The Select Vestry will; as in all our activities have
overall responsibility.
Being a member requires attendance at about 4 meetings
per year. It is not an exclusive body. Members are the parish trustees (and
always have been!). Membership involves posts such as 2 Churchwardens for each
church, Panel membership(3) & 2 Glebewardens (care of the Rectory). The
Rector is the Chairperson. And there are 12 members. I hope, we can move
forward with more parishioners doing their bit to contribute to parish life as members, worshippers and sharing their particular gifts and skills
for the good of all. We all have a role; what we need is to hone those skills
through participation.
All are always welcome; just turn up at the Easter
Vestry and, at least, learn a little more about your parish! No obligation to
be on any committee!
Happy Easter!

Cleaning
& Flowers in our Churches – Please remember
to do what you have volunteered for. And please take your rubbish away with
you. New volunteers are always welcome.
St Paul's, Cahir – The Haha development is almost completed. The retaining wall looks so
much better with the new stone work. It was planned that there would be a fence
on the church side for health & safety reasons. As far as I know, nobody
has ever fallen into the gully but I think we have become almost too “careful”
in some matters!
General
Easter Meeting – Will take place in Old St Mary's Church, Clonmel
@ 8.00pm on Thursday, 5th April 2018 – all registered Vestrymen
(sorry, the title has not been changed since Disestablishment in 1870) and new
comers are welcome to attend. Come along and learn more about the Church you
are a member of! At least experience how we “govern” our parish in the matters
of Finance, Fabric (buildings) and Furnishings (the contents in our
buildings)This important meeting elects the Select Vestry for the coming year
have charge of the 3Fs above.
Concerts -
The Koln Philharmonia will
perform in Old St Marys on Wednesday, 8th August @ 8pm.
Whist Drives – Numbers have been small so far
this season. Our next one takes place in the Sisters of Charity Hall (opposite Old St Mary's) on Friday,
13th April 2018 @ 8.00pm.
Newccomers always
welcome!
Confirmation
– There are four candidates this year and our
classes/discussions continue on Wednesday afternoons at 4.00pm at the Rectory.
Confirmation takes place in Old St Marys on 22nd April 2018 in Old
St Marys @ 11.00am . The candidates have asked Bishop Michael to speak
about a very interesting “person” on the day. You need to be there to find out
who it is!!
The
candidates will meet with Bishop Michael at Cashel Catheral on Thursday, 29th
March (Holy Thursday) at 5.30pm sharp.
Your
Prayers –
Please remember those who are unwell, at home & in hospital. At this time we need to pray, especially, for peace. Some of our older
members have been quite unwell and in hospital of late; as have quite a number
of others. It has been a very hard beginning to 2018 weatherise.
Bereavement – We offer our sincere sympathy to Jimmy Kingston and
his family
on the death of his brother, Reginald, in West Cork.
Sunday Life -This is an hour-long programme on TippFm which is broadcast from 7- 8am on Sunday
mornings. It usually comprises music, reading and interviews. We keep it light
as most of our listeners have just woken up!
Greeting Cards – Greeting cards with pictures of all our 5 churches are available in each church at €2 each. The
inside is blank to facilitate personal greeting.
Bio-Diversity Project – This project at Old St Marys & St Pauls
has developed very
well in the last year; both due to dedication of parishioners, the CoCo &
the small team of those who have donated
plants, dug, planted and kept the project going. At Old St Marys; we welcome
contributions of plants for the new areas. Please consult with Bernard
regarding which plants are best for such projects.
Concerts – The three days of
music (The Voice) organised by Cliona Maher at the Arts Centre went very well and attracted numbers; not particularly
expected. The music was varied and covered many hundreds of years of
traditional , comtemporary and experimental pieces.
School – At the moment the children are preparing their projects for the annual Bishops Art
competition. The theme is “Route 66”; connected to “Jars 4 Journeys” and other
exploration of the lives of those in
challenging parts of our world. The range of art forms used is wide and each
child/group of children decides their own theme. We wish everybody well in this
annual fun,yet quite serious adventure!

Lay Reader Training – A new course will probably begin in Autumn 2018. Anybody can do this course for their
own interest . It is presented at Level 7 and can be quite challenging. We rely
on our Lay Readers to keep our chur ches open and it is always necessary that
new people offer themselves for this Church ministry. Cork Diocese has now
begun its own course due to demand.
