We wish all who have completed Junior Certificate,
Leaving Certificate or Highter Education
exams well and hope that all has gone
well!
We ended our school year with nobody in 6th
class; and hope for four new pupils in 2017/18.
If your newsletter does not arrive, there are usually
spare copies on the table behind the pews in Old St Mary's, Clonmel; which is
usually open up to 11.30am on weekdays and at worship times on Sundays.
Do take time out during the coming weeks; hopefully in
warm, sunny days.
Barbara
Greeting Cards – Greeting cards
with pictures of all our 5 churches are available in
each church at €2 each. The inside is blank to
facilitate personal greeting
Cleaning
& Flowers in our Churches – The new rota is in the porch of Old St Mary's.
Where no provider of flowers/greenery appears, it is the task of those who
clean in that month.
Summer
Singalong - Coro Travergolette from Northern Italy, one of
Clonmel's twinned town bands performed in Old St Mary's on 3rd June.
Proceeds went to S/E Radiotherapy Trust. It was well attended and was most
enjoyable.
Schools'
Festival Service -Took
place in Lismore Cathedral. The weather was good, the Children of our schools
in Waterford, Stradbally, Lismore and
Clonmel enjoyed the singing, reading and drama. Thank-you to our
teachers for the effort put into preparing for this annual event.
The
Tholsel, Fethard – The
opening of the Tholsel (town hall) and its “Horse Experience” took place on 30th
May. It is hoped that this will attract more people to visit Fethard; once one
of the most important towns in Ireland. Holy trinity Church is part of this
“experience”.
End
of year Ceremony – This
annual showcase of extra-curricular activities took place on 16th
June. The room was packed with the families of the children and was most
enjoyable as we were entertained by the students in Franch, German, on recorder
and othe instruments. Each child received a certificate as they do every year
for achievement. School has now closed for the Summer holidays.
New
Teacher – We
have now become a three teacher school. The new post is a Learning Support
Teacher position. This post replaces the now defunct part-time post that gave a number of hours
help with learning where students had some difficulty. This new post is permanent and we share it with the Gaelscoil. We are the lead school with the
majority of hours. Ms McGrath will be
most welcome and we look forward to welcoming her in September.
Parish
BBQ – This
annual event was very poorly supported on what was a beautiful summers day. The
total sum raised was €900. The proceeds were split between St Vincent de Paul
& Parish funds.
Arts
Centre - We welcome Cliona, the new director, to the
Clonmel Arts Centre. New programs are being offered and we wish her well in her
new position.
Safeguarding Trust – This processed is very slow with just 3 returns at the moment. It
appears that those working with children in the pub lic services, including
teachers, are being given priority. To avoid any misunderstanding; the final
document comes to me as the local administrator and is kept in the parish
filing cabinet. One word, if you are filling out a form make sure you fill it
in completely; there is a little box down near the bottom of the vetting
application form that requires a tick! It is good to have a team willing to
help with our young people. If you would like to be part of this parish team,
please ask for a form.
Singing group – Will meet in
Old St Marys on Thursday, @ 8.00pm -all welcome! – this is an opportunity to
learn new hymns/canticles and sing old ones in a relaxed atmosphere.

Wednesday
Weekday Service – Service at 10.30am in Old St Marys – Refreshments
afterwards
Holy Matrimony – Congratulations
to Laura McCormack and Andrew Mathews who
were married in Holy Trinity Church, Fethard on 23rd June 2017. We
wish them a Happy and long life together.
Your
Prayers –
Please remember those who are unwell, at home & in hospital. At this time we need to pray, especially, for peace.
Bio-Diversity Project – Much progress has been made in this project. Thank-you to those who have given plants and shown an interest. The corporation of
Clonmel has given bedding plants and more will follow in the Autumn. If you
have not seen what has been done; take time on your next visit to Clonmel to
have a look!! Please avoid driving onto flowerbeds.
Sunday Life -This is an hour-long
programme on TippFm which is broadcast from
7- 8am on Sunday mornings. It usually comprises music, reading and
interviews. We keep it light as most of our listeners have just woken up!
Tus – We have new participants in Cahir,
Marlfield/Clonmel/Tullameelan. It is hoped that some remedial work will be done
on the avenue at Marlfield in the near future. These schemes do not absolve us
from our role in maintaining our buildings and their environs. There is always
some project that parishioners can participate in. It is part of being a Church
member!
End
of year Ceremony – This
annual showcase of extra-curricular activities took place on 16th June. The room was packed with the families of
the children and was most enjoyable as we were entertained by the students in
French, German, on recorder and othe instruments. Each child received a
certificate as they do every year for achievement. School has now closed for

Route 66 – From Wednesday 13th September to Friday, 29th
September Bishop Michael will travel arround the Diocese on yet another one of
his efforts to raise funds for Diocesan Projects. We have had the gatherings at
railway stations and his playing an instrument in every church in our diocese
and having parishioners singing the same Harvest hymn over a hundred times! He
was not inclined to hear that particular hymn for some time afterwards!
There are 66 books in the Bible and this year, he will
visit 66 venues, churches & schools, in our diocese and give a meditation
on a book of the Bible at each venue.
He will be be in Clonmel on Tuesday, 26th
September:
1.
St Mary's Parochial School at 13.00 – So parents,
grandparents and friends be there to share a short meditation on St Paul's 2nd
letter to Timothy – a young man preparing for ministry.
2.
Old St Mary's Church @ 13.30 – and the meditation will
be on St Paul's letter to Titus.
3.
The project that will benefit from our giving on the
day will be “Supporting the Empowerment of Women through Literacy” through the
Mothers Union and “Feed the Minds” women's literacy projects in Ethiopia and
the Congo via the Bishops' Appeal Fund.
Kilvemnon – I visit
Mullinahone recently and met the new owner of the old church & it's environs.
The graves there are being beautifully maintained.
