September - October 2016

September  - October 2016

We wish our young people who have just begun school, moved up a class, begun their Secondary education or are about to enter 3rd Level Education, Apprenticeships or new jobs every blessing for the future. Included in these good wishes are adults who are going back to education. It's a brave thing to do but well worth the moments of doubt and anxiety. And that feeling that one has bitten off more than you can chew. To all, remember nobody expects anything more than your best efforts.

If you have taken photographs of any events that you would like posted on our Facebook, please send them to me – do be aware that under diocesan guidelines, children cannot be identified on any Church publications.

·         Friday, 30 September – Old St Mary's, Clonmel @7.30pm

Repairs & Renovations at Holy Trinity The work at the alley end of the Town Hall will continue for some little time. The plan continues to be reviewed, as the work progresses,  in order to achieve the best possible outcome. Times have changed and initial plans can change quite dramatically as the effects of renovation/restoration become apparent.

St Paul's Church – The Clutterbuck family visited St Paul's to see the sanctuary chair given in memory of . Their family have a vault in the grounds of Holy Trinity, Fethard and this is to be renovated.
Water has been pouring down the walls of the boiler room for some years, apparently when it rains, and now we have a rapidly growing fungus on the back wall in the church. The diocesan architect has viewed that part of the church and it appears that the problem is not connected with the roof, but to a water tank above the boiler which appears to be overflowing. We will be removing floorboards in the back gallery and opening the wall in the gallery to see what the problem really is.

Greeting Cards – Greeting cards with pictures of all our 5 churches are available in each church at €2 each. The inside is blank to facilitate personal greeting

Sunday Life -This is an hour-long programme on TippFm which is broadcast from 7- 8am on Sunday mornings. It usually comprises music, reading and interviews. We keep it light as most of our listeners have just woken up!

Your Prayers – Please remember those who are unwell, at home & in hospital. At this time we need to pray, especially, for peace.

Whist Drives  - New season begins on Friday, 9th September @ 8.00pm sharp – contributions to the supper, prizes and raffle welcome!
                          Friday - 14th October 2016
                           Friday - 11th November 2016
                           Friday -   9th December 2016

Singing group – Will meet in Old St Marys on Thursday, 8th & Friday, 23rd September & 2016. All welcome – this is an opportunity to learn new hymns and sing old ones. Some wonder why a choir sits in front of the organ in church and not behind the congrgation – the organist actually sits in a situation where the noise of the organ makes it difficult to hear those some distance away and it is important that he/she can hear those leading the singingand stay with them.

Tus/Fas – While these unemployment schemes help us in the care of our churches, their task is not to do everything for us! We need to do ur share of cleaning, renovating and general maintenance. It is yet another way of building up community spirit! We do not pay those who take part in these schemes and, I think, sometimes we expect too much!

Old St Marys – The moulding over the east window in Old St Marys has been shedding what appeared to be loose paint for some time. In fact, the moulding is disintegrating and in a state of collapse. This needs to be replaced asap as there is danger of pieces dislodging and creating a health and safety problem. Arnagements have been made to have it replaced.

Legacy – The late Una Browne bequeath part of her estate to Old St Mary's for the maintenance of the building. It was a lovely gesture, which will go a long way to completing the above.

Christmas Fair – Our annual Fair will take place in Old St Marys on Saturday, 3rd December 2016. Santa & the magician are booked. The format has been changed and the main attraction will be a wheel of  fortune. There will be a cake stall, craft stall, refreshments, Debbie's stall and the usual Christmas/Winter fare in the porch with the usual crib. We need help before & during, cakes/buns/tarts etc and more craft/persoanl interest stalls. Will not be having bric-a-brac or bottles. It's time we all worked together, mucked in and moved forward.

Church Blessing After a Civil Ceremony – Ingrid Stolle & Kevin Walshe were married in a Civil ceremony in Seattle, USA some months ago. Kevin's family were unable to attend and, so, they decided to have their marriage blessed in Holy Trinity, Fethard; Kevin's home town on . We wish them every blessing as they embark on their life together and may they have many many years of happiness.

Holy Baptism – Fred Isaac Molloy, son of Conor & Samantha was baptised by the Rector in Old St Marys on Saturday, 30th July. It was a wonderfully joyous family occasion. May he grow in faith and the love of his Lord.

Bereavements – Our sincere sympathy goes to Evelyn Tedham, Newcastle, and her family on the death of he husband, Leonard after an illness. His funeral took place in St Paul's, Cahir and burial took place in Kilcommon Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations – Olive & Sean White on the birth of their twin grandchildren.

Congratulations – To the seven young people in our parish who achieved amazing results in their Leaving Certificate. We wish them every success and hapiness in their post-leaving cert lives!

Invitation – Sheila Hunter & Josh Lamb are getting married on Saturday, 24th September 2014 and they invite parishioners to attend their wedding ceremony in Old St Mary's @ 1.30pm. They also invite parishioners to the “afters” in Kilcoran Lodge at 9pm to share in their celebration! They are worshippers in Old St Marys & Sheila sings in our Singing Group.

Ordination – David Oville Compton was ordained priest in St Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny on Saturday, 27th August 206 by Bishop michael. He will serve as Bishop's Vicar & Curate of the Kilkenny Union of Parishes.

Institution – The Rev David White, formerly Curate of Bandon, Co Cork, became Rector of Carlow Union of Parishes in a full St Mary's church, Carlow on Sunday, 28th August 2016. We now have no vacanciess in our Diocese.

Ireland’s Ancient East Orientation SignageMrs H Carter volunteered to her mobile number put on display on our noticeboard at St Paul's so that visitors can have access to St Paul's.
Having been at St Paul's more often than usual this Summer, I can tell you that St Paul's is a place much visited.

Place 4U -  Charity Coffee Mornings on Fridays

Summer Concerts –  The Koln Philharmonia treated those who attended their concert on 3rd August 2016 to a superb evening of music. The attendance was larger than in previous years.
Four young ladies  from the RIAM treated a large audience to an  amazing evening of music on the harp in Holy Trinity Church on 27th  August.

“Atlantic” - This documentary film by Risteard O'Driscoll is a must for anybody concerned about the effect of oil drilling on fishing and the environment in the north Sea. It was shown in the Abbeymill, Theatre, Fethard on 25th August 2016 as part of Heritage Week.

“55 Scenes of Clonmel” - This amazing locally producted reproduction of the Siege of Clonmel” had its premiere in the Minella Hotel as part of the Busking Festival launch. The cast was local, the stars included service users of Bridgewater House and the re – enactment of the siege presented as a dream. The also included the Gospel Choir & dancers from a local dance school.

Tour of Tipperary Walled Towns -This took place on Monday, 22nd August and took us to Carrick-on-Suir, Fethard, Cashel & Clonmel in the company of Michael Moylan. On returning to Clonmel at the end of a long very hot day, we amused ourselves with trying on medieval armour & learning how to use ancient weapons ; a perfect end to a long day of learning, fun and in good company.

Talk at the Main Guard in Heritage week - “Prostitution in Ireland” was an unusual topic; but taking the subject as an integral part of community life, led to much discussion about our towns, villages and life in general in times past.

HaHa at CahirThe County Council has received permission to spend the funding,  so the works on the haha will commence shortly.
