Course in Christian Studies –
This course in future will provide the necessary requirement for progress to selection for training for ministry & entry into the Theological Institute. It is also the course for training for diocesan reader or a vehicle for furthering one’s interest in learning about our faith, the Bible & worship.
After a year’s work, a working group has developed the new course for the training of diocesan readers & a course that will be equal to the Foundation Course; required for entry into training for ministry.
The current belief that potential ordinands must have already attained a university degree before consideration for training for ministry is a myth that has been circulating around the C of I for the last few years and has put potential candidates off.
This course is accredited to NUI Maynooth, presented by our own bishop & diocesan clergy under the guidance of the Adult Education Officer & the Warden of Readers – we have & are writing the course ourselves.

Sharing with & Resourcing Others –
The Rector, as Diocesan Warden of readers, recently facilitated an evening with diocesan readers & the Rev Canon Liz Beasley, bishop’s Assistant, Hawaii. She was here in Ireland to learn about how we train people for ministry as they have done very little since Hawaii was evangelised in the 1860s. We all learned a lot!

Certificate in Christian Studies –
As Diocesan Warden of Lay Readers, I will be devoting one evening per week to this course from late September.
This is new Certificate in Christian Studies for all diocesan lay readers- in-training and for those who wish to do the course for their own purposes
You will be informed when we have application dates for the course – any adult may apply to do the course – it will carry transferable credits within the European 3rd Level system.
