I hope everybody got some benefit from the long
season of heat and humidity. Yes, some found it difficult and our farmers
suffered considerably; as did gardeners.
The newsletter has undergone a review and clean-up!
After much consideration and consultation, the organ
in Fethard has undergone some repair; which should keep it going in the short
time, at least. For the next 10 - 15yrs perhaps. The woodworm has also been
treated. It is now playable. This was a decision made by the parishioners; who
spent considerable time weighing up the options together and they are to be
admired for the realistic conclusions they came to. This was about working
together, trusting each other and looking to the future with realism.
The “Souls of Our Shoes” is a project inspired by a
desire to speak out and do something about gender violence. The shoes have been
donated by Mothers Union members. Each pair has a card attached on which the
donor has written a comment/short
explanation as to why the shoes, their “lives”, their treatment, the manner in
which they were left to age behind closed doors, mis-shapen in the cause of
somebody’s pride/lack of respect might be some sort of mirror image of how some
in every community are treated.
Do if you get the chance visit Christ Church
Cathedral Dublin; its a great place to visit anytime!

and Adele every blessing as they begin their married life together.
Bereavement
– Aileen Dorothy Jones died peacefully in the Cottage Nursing Home, Clonmel
on 25th June 2018 at the age of almost 98yrs. She was a lady with
great faith. Her Funeral Service took place in old St Mary’s and interment took
place in exceptionally hot weather in Tullaghmeelan. Our sympathy goes to her
daughter, Melanie Cooper. May she rest in peace.
Larry Hopkins died suddenly on 9th July 2018. He had lived for
some years in Cahir before moving to Fethard about 10 yrs ago. His funeral
Service took place in Holy Trinity Church, Fethard on Monday, 16th
July 2018. Cremation took place in Cork. We sympathise with his family who
travelled to Ireland for the obsequies.
Lay Reader
Training – We all rely on our Lay Readers to keep our Sunday worship active in our
parishes. At the moment, we are experiencing the retirement of a number of them
who have served our Diocese for many years. As time moves on, it is natural and
usual, that people retire. We rely on the generosity of members of our
congregations to offer themselves for training for this important ministry. In
our own area, there are a number of Lay Readers who have reached the age at
which they become “Emeritus”; which means that they no longer have any
obligation to serve anywhere, but may do so if they choose to. Most opt to
serve only in their own parishes. So, we need some new people who, after
training, would enable us to keep our churches open Sunday by Sunday. If you wish to consider offering yourself to
this ministry; your first port –of-call is your Rector.
