The Bishop has asked the clergy to make special arrangements for the observation of Lent and Easter next year. In the coming months plans for our parish will unfold.

Pakistan and a similar disaster in the Niger.
All collections at our Harvest Thanksgivings go to the Bishops Appeal.

Caroline Moreau & The Café Chantant Choir –

On Friday, 9th July, Caroline Moreau sang in Old St. Mary’s as part of the Junction Festival. This was a concert with a difference. It attracted a full attendance.
The choir was formed only a week before the concert and consisted of local children and adults. They sang a range of French songs and some excerpts from musicals. But the highlight of the night was the wonderful voice of Caroline herself.
This was part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the Junction Festival. It’s success is due to the innovative vision of David and Theresa Teevan and looks like growing in strength and popularity for many more years.

St. Mary’s Parochial School (Model School) –

We wish last year’s sixth class every blessing as they begin their first term in secondary school.
We welcome new pupils an welcome Mrs Brennan back after her year’s career break

Barbeque –

This event was a great success with a sunny afternoon and a goodly number of people who appear to have enjoyed themselves. Our share of the proceeds is €400, which will be a help in ensuring our parish remains solvent in these difficult times.

Childrens’ Festival Service –

Our school joined the other schools of the Cashel, Waterford & Lismore area of our diocese for their festival service on Friday, 11th June. It was an inspiring act of worship with each school contributing throughout

Walled Town Days –

The sun shone on a lively and busy walled town day in Fethard on Sunday, 22nd August 2010. Thank-you to Heather, Thelma and their helpers who served teas at Holy Trinity Church and raised some much needed funds for the renovation and maintenance of that wonderful building

This was a huge success. The town was packed with enthusiastic people, many in costume. Large numbers visited Holy Trinity church and walked the walls.

The flags flew from the church and tower roofs and lots of people enjoyed the refreshments porvided by parishioners and friends. This was an inspired idea by somebody and much credit is due to this congregation for their efforts to maintain and renovate their church.
About €600 was raised and will go towards the church restoration fund. Thank-you!

Institution –

The Rev Tom Gordon will be instituted as Rector of the Leighlin Group of
parishes, installed as Dean of the cathedral and commissioned as An tOllamh
(Adult Education Officer) in Leighlin Cathedral on Sunday, 26th September 2010.

The rev Tom will be known to some of you from his regular leading of worship on RTE Radio on Sunday mornings. He is a former lecturer of the Church of Ireland Institute of Theology. His initial diocesan responsibility will be to oversee the introduction of the new Diocesan Certificate in Christian Studies Course that will begin in September in conjunction with NUI Maynooth.

Congratulations –

To Zoe Duncan who has secured a place in TCD to study pharmacy.

Baptisms, Marriages & Funerals –

By appointment with the Rector – for weddings, you must make contact more than three months before the proposed date of the wedding.

Renewal of Marriage Vows –

George and Margaret Hogg renewed their marriage vows in the presence of family and friends in Old St. Mary’s Clonmel, on the 31st July 2010.

We wish them many more years of wedded bliss

Confirmation Follow-up –

Those who were confirmed in June expressed a wish to be involved in worship after confirmation – as some of you are going away to boarding school, might I suggest sometime on Saturday, 11th September for a get-together to discuss what we might do a little training for – whatever it is, there will be about 2/3 sessions only involved and after that, perhaps a get-together for planning about once every three months – let me know, in person or by text what time might suit and we can organise a time that suits most best.
If there is anybody else who might like to join us, please feel free to make contact.

Confirmation 2011 -

It seems like only yesterday when we had our wonderful Confirmation in Service in Clonmel. Time moves on and it is now time to gather next year’s candidates.
If you would wish to be confirmed in 2011, please talk to the Rector as soon as possible.

Bereavements –

A number of familes suffered bereavements during the last few months.

Don Carter died after a long illness during which he was nursed by his wife. His
funeral took place at the Island Crematorium, Cork.

Our sympathy goes to Pearl O’Keeffe and her family on the death of her father in
Wexford after an illness.

We offer our sympathy to Duncan Levie and his family on the death of his father
in Co. Clare after an illness.

Our sympathy also goes to Bob Williams and his family on their recent
bereavement.

May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
