I don’t know about you, but I the coolness of this Saturday morning
came a quite a shock after the months of warmth and, at time too much heat!
This is the time of year when our Bishop
decides where and when Confirmation Services take place. It is usual, in the
Church of Ireland that young people are confirmed when 12 plus and, of course,
if you missed out and would like to be confirmed; just let me know
In this time in which we live much relies on
communication via email, mobile phone and other social media.
Might I ask that if you wish to make contact
with me; you use my mobile phone number.
You will have a better chance of contacting me; especially in an
emergency. I am out of the Rectory a lot and, at the moment my landline is not
working satisfactorily.
Might I also ask that if a member of your
family is admitted to hospital/Nursing home that you tell me. I do visit and
receive a list of Anglican (C of I, C of
E etc) patients when I visit the hospital, but, if somebody is admitted to a
Nursing Home, I need to be told as when I visit I must know who I am looking
for! They only inform me when somebody needs urgent pastoral care!

Everybody is welcome! We practise for worship, learn
new hymns in a relaxed atmosphere!
Lay
Reader Training – We all rely on our Lay Readers to keep our Sunday
worship active in our parishes. At the moment, we are experiencing the
retirement of a number of them who have served our Diocese for many years. As
time moves on, it is natural and usual, that people retire. We rely on the
generosity of members of our congregations to offer themselves for training for
this important ministry. In our own area, there are a number of Lay Readers who
have reached the age at which they become “Emeritus”; which means that they no
longer have any obligation to serve anywhere, but may do so if they choose to.
Most opt to serve only in their own parishes. So, we need some new people who,
after training, would enable us to keep our churches open Sunday by Sunday. If you wish to consider offering yourself to
this ministry; your first port –of-call is your Rector.
Concert – Clonmel
Rugby Club will hold a concert in Old St Mary’s on Thursday, 20th
December 2018 @ 8.00pm. It is important to book your tickets for this event
well in advance!
Select
Vestry – The Select Vestry will meet on Friday, 1st
November in Old St Marys @ 8.00pm – apologies to Bernard, please.
Bio-Diversity
Project – Autumn is the time that is best for planting perennials
and shrubs. All contributions to our project in Old St Mary’s are most welcome.
Our latest project has been to create a rose bed. Any help you might be able to
offer is always most welcome
Cleaning
& Flowers in our Churches – Please
remember to do what you have volunteered for. And please take your rubbish away
with you. New volunteers are always welcome.
Ordination
– The Rev Trevor Sargent was ordained priest in Christ
Church Cathedral, Waterford in the presence of a large congregation. The now
former Archdeacon, Andrew Orr preached an absolutely amazing sermon on the
mother of Jesus. The organist, Mr Sweeney, retired on that occasion and
received a presentation at the end of the Service.
GDPR – The implementation of this new compliance policy that requires of all
organisations who hold personal data is taking up considerable time and energy.
Those who have the duty to instruct us in the processes and requirement are, in
the main, doing a good job. The clergy have undertaken a preliminary seminar.
Safeguarding
Trust – The Diocesan Council has appointed a team of three
people to implement this requirement of every parish. To date, the Rev James
Mulhall worked alone. In this important part of our parish life, it has been decided
that it is inappropriate to expect one person alone to carry the burden. Training
will be carried out by the team and they will work to ensuring all parishes are
compliant.
CRA
– The Charities Regulatory Authority has been in place
since 2014. We have our own “registered charity number” and during this week
our accounts have been uploaded unto their site and been accepted. This means
that it is possible to view our financial returns online!!
Whist
Drives – We will have our 1st Drive of the season
on Friday, 12th October 2018
@ 8.00pm sharp.
Contributions to prizes and supper welcome.
The whist drives before Christmas will take place
on:
Friday, 9th
November 2018
Friday, 14th December 2018
Assessment
– Parishes are obliged to provide funds in order that
our diocesan staff, clergy, Bishop and our diocesan office and it’s staff can
be provided for. It also ensures that our churches are warm for worship and
that provision for the articles required for worship can be provided. Each
parish is assessed according to it’s population. Membership of a parish
presumes that each parishioner contributes towards the costs of all aspects of
parish and diocesan life; according to their personal ability to do so. There
is no set amount person. At the moment we have not completed our dues for the
year that is almost over and we face into 2019 with a deficit. All
contributions are gratefully received. A simple way of doing it is to
contribute to the envelope scheme – a donation per Sunday in an envelope
amounts to quite a sum over the year and takes away the strain of finding a
substantial sum at the end of the year as it did in the past. Christmas has
always been the time of giving and, in the past, particularly, the envelopes
with parishioners contribution to Assessment/ Sustentation (as it was once
called) would be placed on the collection plate. There is still no reason why
you should not give in that way today.
Cleaning
& Flowers in our Churches – Please
remember to do what you have volunteered for. And please take your rubbish away
with you. New volunteers are always welcome.
Your
Prayers –
Please remember those who are unwell, at home & in hospital. At this time
we need to pray, especially, for peace.

The
11th November 2018 is the actual centenary of the ending of the 1st
World War. It is appropriate that we make every effort to be in attendance to
remember those who died so that we might have a better life. Where there is a
war memorial, it would be appropriate to attend the commemoration there if
possible.
